On the 31st anniversary of the martyrdom of President René Moawad and his companions, Independence Movement President and Resigned MP Michel Moawad posted, on Twitter, a video of President Moawad’s last words to the Lebanese people shortly before his martyrdom. Commenting on the video, he said: “President René Moawad’s last words to the Lebanese people, on the eve of his martyrdom: History cannot be annulled by a decision ... the 22nd of November will continue to be Independence Day.”
The following is a written expert of the of Moawad’s last words: “Oh Lebanese, history cannot be annulled by a decision. The 22nd of November will continue to be Independence Day. We will transform it from an occasion to a celebration. Through love, faith and fraternity, we will vanquish despair, regain our pride of belonging to a single identity and territory. I appeal to you, in a question from my heart to yours: Do we love this nation? I already know the answer. Then let us unite in building together, rejoicing and living. Long live Lebanon.”
